- noun Technical meaning of giuseppe peano (person, mathematics, logic) (1858-08-27 - 1932-04-20) An Italian mathematician who wrote over 200 books and papers, was a founder of mathematical logic and set theory and taught at the University of Turin. He contributed to mathematical analysis, logic, the teaching of calculus, differential equations, vector analysis and the axiomatization of mathematics. The standard axiomatization of the natural numbers is named Peano arithmetic or the Peano axioms after him. He also invented the Peano curve, an early example of a fractal. 1
