  • good-for-nothing — worthless; of no use.
  • hound — Nautical. either of a pair of fore-and-aft members at the lower end of the head of a mast, for supporting the trestletrees, that support an upper mast at its heel. Compare cheek (def 12).
  • ne'er-do-well — an idle, worthless person; a person who is ineffectual, unsuccessful, or completely lacking in merit; good-for-nothing.

  • wretch — a deplorably unfortunate or unhappy person.
  • black sheep — If you describe someone as the black sheep of their family or of a group that they are a member of, you mean that they are considered bad or worthless by other people in that family or group.
  • yellow dog — a cowardly, despicable person; a craven.
