- dodge — to elude or evade by a sudden shift of position or by strategy: to dodge a blow; to dodge a question.
- equivocate — Use ambiguous language so as to conceal the truth or avoid committing oneself.
- temporise — to be indecisive or evasive to gain time or delay acting.
- enclose — Surround or close off on all sides.
