indirect — not in a direct course or path; deviating from a straight line; roundabout: an indirect course in sailing.
oblique — neither perpendicular nor parallel to a given line or surface; slanting; sloping.
neutral — not taking part or giving assistance in a dispute or war between others: a neutral nation during World War II.
understated — restrained in design, presentation, etc.; low-key: the understated elegance of the house.
innocuous — not harmful or injurious; harmless: an innocuous home remedy.
polite — showing good manners toward others, as in behavior, speech, etc.; courteous; civil: a polite reply.
affected — If you describe someone's behaviour as affected, you disapprove of the fact that they behave in an unnatural way that is intended to impress other people.
delicate — Something that is delicate is small and beautifully shaped.
figurative — of the nature of or involving a figure of speech, especially a metaphor; metaphorical and not literal: The word “head” has several figurative senses, as in “She's the head of the company.”. Synonyms: metaphorical, not literal, symbolic.
metaphorical — a figure of speech in which a term or phrase is applied to something to which it is not literally applicable in order to suggest a resemblance, as in “A mighty fortress is our God.”. Compare mixed metaphor, simile (def 1).
mild — amiably gentle or temperate in feeling or behavior toward others.
refined — having or showing well-bred feeling, taste, etc.: refined people.
vague — not clearly or explicitly stated or expressed: vague promises.
