stop — to cease from, leave off, or discontinue: to stop running.
thwart — to oppose successfully; prevent from accomplishing a purpose.
prohibit — to forbid (an action, activity, etc.) by authority or law: Smoking is prohibited here.
ward off — a division or district of a city or town, as for administrative or political purposes.
halt — to falter, as in speech, reasoning, etc.; be hesitant; stumble.
forbid — to command (a person) not to do something, have something, etc., or not to enter some place: to forbid him entry to the house.
impede — to retard in movement or progress by means of obstacles or hindrances; obstruct; hinder.
bar — A bar is a place where you can buy and drink alcoholic drinks.
obstruct — to block or close up with an obstacle; make difficult to pass: Debris obstructed the road.
plug — an apparatus for splitting stone, consisting of two tapered bars (feathers) inserted into a hole drilled into the stone, between which a narrow wedge (plug) is hammered to spread them.
preclude — to prevent the presence, existence, or occurrence of; make impossible: The insufficiency of the evidence precludes a conviction.
