bruise — A bruise is an injury which appears as a purple mark on your body, although the skin is not broken.
scorch — to affect the color, taste, etc., of by burning slightly: The collar of the shirt was yellow where the iron had scorched it.
fading — to lose brightness or vividness of color.
defile — To defile something that people think is important or holy means to do something to it or say something about it which is offensive.
rust — Also called iron rust. the red or orange coating that forms on the surface of iron when exposed to air and moisture, consisting chiefly of ferric hydroxide and ferric oxide formed by oxidation.
besmirch — If you besmirch someone or their reputation, you say that they are a bad person or that they have done something wrong, usually when this is not true.
blot — If something is a blot on a person's or thing's reputation, it spoils their reputation.
mar — to damage or spoil to a certain extent; render less perfect, attractive, useful, etc.; impair or spoil: That billboard mars the view. The holiday was marred by bad weather.
