One-syllable rhymes

  • joint — the place at which two things, or separate parts of one thing, are joined or united, either rigidly or in such a way as to permit motion; juncture.
  • point — a fraction whose denominator is some power of 10, usually indicated by a dot (decimal point or point) written before the numerator: as 0.4 = 4/10; 0.126 = 126/1000.

Two-syllable rhymes

  • ankle joint — the joint made by the two leg bones (the tibia and the fibula) and the talus
  • anoint — To anoint someone means to put oil or water on a part of their body, usually for religious reasons.
  • appoint — If you appoint someone to a job or official position, you formally choose them for it.
  • blue point — a Siamese cat having a light-colored body and darker, bluish-gray points.
  • butt joint — a joint between two plates, planks, bars, sections, etc, when the components are butted together and do not overlap or interlock. The joint may be strapped with jointing plates laid across it or welded (butt weld)

  • fish joint — a connection formed by fishplates at the meeting point of two rails, beams, etc, as on a railway
  • flash point — Also, flashing point. Physical Chemistry. the lowest temperature at which a liquid in a specified apparatus will give off sufficient vapor to ignite momentarily on application of a flame.
  • gros point — a large stitch used in embroidery. Compare petit point (def 1), tent stitch.
  • hinge joint — ginglymus.
  • hip joint — a ball-and-socket joint between the head of the femur and the innominate bone.
  • knee joint — articulation of the leg
  • knuckle joint — a joint forming a knuckle.
  • lap joint — Also called plain lap. a joint, as between two pieces of metal or timber, in which the pieces overlap without any change in form.
  • match point — (in tennis, squash, handball, etc.) the point that if won would enable the scorer or the scorer's side to win the match.
  • mitre joint — a corner joint formed between two pieces of material, esp wood, by cutting bevels of equal angles at the ends of each piece
  • strong point — Bridge. a long suit that contains high cards.
  • toggle joint — any of various devices consisting basically of a rod that can be inserted into an object and then manipulated so that the inserted part spreads, becomes offset, or turns at a right angle to the exterior part, allowing it to be used as a support, handle, linkage, lever, etc.
  • west point — a military reservation in SE New York, on the Hudson: U.S. Military Academy.
  • wrist joint — articulation between arm and hand

Three-syllable rhymes

  • boiling point — The boiling point of a liquid is the temperature at which it starts to change into steam or vapour. For example, the boiling point of water is 100° centigrade.
  • breaking point — If something or someone has reached breaking point, they have so many problems or difficulties that they can no longer cope with them, and may soon collapse or be unable to continue.
  • case in point — a specific, appropriate, or relevant instance or example
  • curie point — the temperature above which a ferromagnetic substance loses its ferromagnetism and becomes paramagnetic
  • datapoint — An identifiable element in a data set.
  • data point — a single fact or piece of information; a datum: Other data points, such as crime statistics, are available from the state government.
  • diamond point — a diamond-tipped engraving tool
  • disappoint — to fail to fulfill the expectations or wishes of: His gross ingratitude disappointed us.
  • focal point — Also called principal focus. Optics. either of two points on the axis of a mirror, lens, or other optical system, one point being such that rays diverging from it are deviated parallel to the axis upon refraction or reflection by the system and the other point being such that rays parallel to the axis of the system converge to the point upon refraction or reflection by the system.
  • freezing point — the temperature at which a liquid freezes: The freezing point of water is 32°F, 0°C.
  • gliding joint — arthrodia.
  • limit point — accumulation point.
  • melting point — the temperature at which a solid substance melts or fuses.
  • miter joint — a joint, especially a butt joint, between two pieces of wood or the like, meeting at an angle in which each of the butting surfaces is cut to an angle equal to half the angle of junction.
  • petit point — a small stitch used in embroidery. Compare gros point (def 1), tent stitch.
  • pivot joint — a freely moving joint that moves by rotating

  • reappoint — to name or assign to a position, an office, or the like; designate: to appoint a new treasurer; to appoint a judge to the bench.
  • shoulder joint — the joint at the junction of the forelimb with the pectoral girdle
  • talking point — a fact or feature that aids or supports one side, as in an argument or competition.
  • to the point — a sharp or tapering end, as of a dagger.
  • turning point — a point at which a decisive change takes place; critical point; crisis.
  • vantage point — a position or place that affords a wide or advantageous perspective; viewpoint: to survey a valley from the vantage point of a high hill.
  • vowel point — any of a group of auxiliary symbols, as small lines and dots, placed above or below consonant symbols to indicate vowels in a writing system, as that of Hebrew or Arabic, in which vowels are otherwise not written.

  • critical point — the point on a phase diagram that represents the critical state of a substance
  • decimal point — A decimal point is the dot in front of a decimal fraction.
  • suspension point — one of a group of dots, usually three, used in written material to indicate the omission of a word or words
  • vanishing point — a point of disappearance, cessation, or extinction: His patience had reached the vanishing point.
