inner product
Also called dot product, scalar product. the quantity obtained by multiplying the corresponding coordinates of each of two vectors and adding the products, equal to the product of the magnitudes of the vectors and the cosine of the angle between them. -
cross product
a vector perpendicular to two given vectors, u and v, and having magnitude equal to the product of the magnitudes of the two given vectors multiplied by the sine of the angle between the two given vectors, usually represented by u × v. -
house brand
a brand name used by a retailer for a product or product line made specifically for or by the retailer. -
orthogonal
Mathematics. Also, orthographic. pertaining to or involving right angles or perpendiculars: an orthogonal projection. (of a system of real functions) defined so that the integral of the product of any two different functions is zero. (of a system of complex functions) defined so that the integral of the product of a function times the complex conjugate of any other function equals zero. (of two vectors) having an inner product equal to zero. (of a linear transformation) defined so that the length of a vector under the transformation equals the length of the original vector. (of a square matrix) defined so that its product with its transpose results in the identity matrix. -
scalar triple product
the volume of the parallelepiped defined by three given vectors, u, v, and w, usually represented as u·v 1 (v×w), [ uvw ], or (uvw), where × denotes a cross product and · denotes an inner product. -
schwarz inequality
Also called Cauchy's inequality. the theorem that the inner product of two vectors is less than or equal to the product of the magnitudes of the vectors.
