fall behind — to drop or descend under the force of gravity, as to a lower place through loss or lack of support.
lose — to come to be without (something in one's possession or care), through accident, theft, etc., so that there is little or no prospect of recovery: I'm sure I've merely misplaced my hat, not lost it.
surrender — to yield (something) to the possession or power of another; deliver up possession of on demand or under duress: to surrender the fort to the enemy; to surrender the stolen goods to the police.
fail — to fall short of success or achievement in something expected, attempted, desired, or approved: The experiment failed because of poor planning.
give up — the quality or state of being resilient; springiness.
aid — Aid is money, equipment, or services that are provided for people, countries, or organizations who need them but cannot provide them for themselves.
assist — If you assist someone, you help them to do a job or task by doing part of the work for them.
cede — If someone in a position of authority cedes land or power to someone else, they let them have the land or power, often as a result of military or political pressure.
guard — to keep safe from harm or danger; protect; watch over: to guard the ruler.
help — to give or provide what is necessary to accomplish a task or satisfy a need; contribute strength or means to; render assistance to; cooperate effectively with; aid; assist: He planned to help me with my work. Let me help you with those packages.
protect — to defend or guard from attack, invasion, loss, annoyance, insult, etc.; cover or shield from injury or danger.
relinquish — to renounce or surrender (a possession, right, etc.): to relinquish the throne.
retreat — the forced or strategic withdrawal of an army or an armed force before an enemy, or the withdrawing of a naval force from action.
abet — If one person abets another, they help or encourage them to do something criminal or wrong. Abet is often used in the legal expression 'aid and abet'.
encourage — Give support, confidence, or hope to (someone).
inspirit — to infuse spirit or life into; enliven.
yield — to give forth or produce by a natural process or in return for cultivation: This farm yields enough fruit to meet all our needs.
delight — Delight is a feeling of very great pleasure.
hold — to have or keep in the hand; keep fast; grasp: She held the purse in her right hand. He held the child's hand in his.
order — an authoritative direction or instruction; command; mandate.
place — a particular portion of space, whether of definite or indefinite extent.
please — (used as a polite addition to requests, commands, etc.) if you would be so obliging; kindly: Please come here. Will you please turn the radio off?
