  • retreat — the forced or strategic withdrawal of an army or an armed force before an enemy, or the withdrawing of a naval force from action.
  • neglect — to pay no attention or too little attention to; disregard or slight: The public neglected his genius for many years.

  • hide — Informal. to administer a beating to; thrash.
  • avoid — If you avoid something unpleasant that might happen, you take action in order to prevent it from happening.
